Frequently Asked Questions

How long can we hold a provisional booking?
A provisional booking is made over the phone to the office, we can hold all provisional booking for fourteen days at this time we do require a completed booking form and the deposit.

What do you recommend as leader/group ratios?
It depends on the type of group. For example a special needs school would normally increase their ratio of helpers. For the majority of groups, a good ratio is one leader for every 8, and then increase/decrease according to circumstances. We would never expect a group to bring less than one leader for every 10 young people to our residential centre.

Have your adventure centre been inspected, and if so, by who?
Yes we have regular inspections as part of the terms of licensing under the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 1996, Royal Yachting Association and Learning Outside the Classroom.

Can leaders inspect our adventure centre themselves?
Yes – we actively encourage leaders to organize an exploratory and a pre residential visit to our activity centre.

Can you provide us with written Risk Assessments for the adventure activities?
Yes – we are very happy to do this, and for leaders themselves to carry out Risk Assessments.

Would my group be expected to mix with other groups at our outdoor activity centre?
No (though you could by pre agreement with other groups leaders). Each group has their own self-contained accommodation. Facilities such as low ropes course are pre booked and not shared. Instructed activities likewise are not shared.

When are my group supervised?
Supervision and instruction takes place on the adventure activities, though you would be expected to involve your own leaders in a supervisory role, and be involved as participants in the adventure activities if you wished.

Do you have a Child Protection Policy?
Yes we do. we can supply a copy upon request. Our policy regulates behavior of all our staff working in centre. All staff are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau.

What happens if I have to cancel?
If you cancel outside of 20 weeks of your stay you would forfeit your deposit. If you cancel within 20 weeks you will be charged 50% of the minimum charge, within 10 weeks 75%, and within 6 weeks 100% of the minimum charge. We encourage groups to take out insurance that will cover in the event of unforeseen cancellation.

Do adventure activities still take place in the rain?
Most adventure activities can take place in most types of weather. Our activity centre supply a kit list, thereby ensuring that groups are able to adequately prepare in advance for their sessions.
