If you want to undertake a canoe journey that involves some or maybe even all of the above - Harbour Challenge is the place, with a whole of Poole Harbour on our doorstep we have 112 miles of unique coastline to explore.
Who can go canoeing?
Anyone! No previous experience is required as our qualified instructional team will teach you the skills you need to paddle around the harbour play games. Boats will normally be shared between 2 or 3 people depending on numbers and previous experience.
Kayaking
Kayaking is one of the most exciting, affordable and versatile
watersports available. The sport covers a huge range of different
disciplines such as exploring inland waterways, surfing breaking waves,
negotiating white water and even acrobatics. The sport is also very
popular with athletes competing in sprint and slalom events. Once you
have learnt the basics, the open water is your oyster as you adapt to
your aquatic surroundings and go exploring! This nationally recognised
one day course is designed as an introduction to paddle sport (kayaks &
canoes). The emphasis of the
course
is on safe practice, fun and enjoyment. It is an eight hour course that
can be run over one day or split over two days (depending on centre).
Once you have successfully mastered the course, you will have earnt a
qualification that allows you to further improve your skills and take them to
the next level. The criteria for the one star assessment are laid down
by the British Canoe Union. The training will be delivered in an
informal manner, with lots of opportunities to practice and experiment
with various techniques and coaching methods.
Who can go kayaking?
Everyone! You don’t to have had any previous
experience as we can tailor the session to suit what you want to get out
of it. Beginners can start in the sheltered location of Brownsea Island
and then progress from there. If you’ve paddled before we can work
towards British Canoe Union paddlepower and star awards.
