Welcome to Harbour Challenge

Harbour Challenge Outdoor Education Centre is a multi-activity non residential and residential facility situated on Brownsea Island in the heart of Poole Harbour Dorset. The centre has been in operation since 1996 and can accommodate over 90 people. We run school and youth groups, and individual youth and adult courses

We work with a large number of local authorities. Our activities can be used to achieve a range of learning outcomes, in particular those set out in the Manifesto for Learning Outside the Classroom.

We are one of the few centres that run an active work placement scheme for young people who wish to experience a career in the outdoor leisure industry, as well as a modern apprenticeship programme.

With Poole Harbour literally on our doorstep, we have immediate access to a superb teaching environment, a fleet of dinghies and kayaks to choose from with a team of experienced RYA instructors and BCU Coaches to guide you.

Harbour Challenge provides a high quality outdoor educational experience which is second to none. Whether you are a youngster in an Pico for the first time or an adult experiencing the thrill of flying a spinnaker or sitting in a kayak or canoe, we can give you the opportunity of  sailing or paddling around the harbour. Emphasis will be placed on practical hands-on experience in a safe learning environment with qualified staff leading the groups

The centre provides RYA dinghy sailing and power boat courses as well as BCU accredited kayaking courses. Although we are primarily a youth centre, we also welcome Scout / Guide troops camping or visiting the island, other organisations individuals and voluntary groups, to take part in our courses or to book sessions.
